Hobbies for Marriage Biodata: Examples for Boy and Girl
The hobbies line is one of the few places in a marriage biodata where the reader learns how you spend your time, not just where you studied or work. Families and prospective partners often read it to judge whether two lifestyles would fit: someone who spends weekends trekking and someone who prefers quiet evenings with books can still be a good match, but it helps to know early.
This guide shows what to write, how to word it, and gives complete samples you can copy and adjust.
What Counts as a Hobby in a Biodata
A hobby is something you actually do regularly in your free time. An interest is something you follow or care about, even if you don't practise it. Most biodata formats use one field called Hobbies & Interests, so you can combine both.
Good entries are:
- True – things you could happily talk about in a first conversation.
- Specific – "reading Hindi and English novels" says more than "reading".
- Short – 3 to 6 items is enough. A biodata is a one-page summary, not a list of everything you have tried.
Hobby Ideas by Category
Pick the ones that genuinely describe you, then make them specific.
| Category | Generic entry | More specific wording |
|---|---|---|
| Reading & writing | Reading | Reading fiction and biographies; occasional blog writing |
| Music | Music | Listening to old Hindi film songs; learning the guitar |
| Fitness & sports | Sports | Playing badminton on weekends; morning walks and yoga |
| Cooking | Cooking | Cooking regional dishes; trying new recipes on Sundays |
| Travel | Travelling | Road trips and visiting heritage sites |
| Arts & crafts | Drawing | Sketching, rangoli and mehendi design |
| Dance | Dancing | Trained in Kathak; enjoys garba during Navratri |
| Spiritual / religious | Spirituality | Attending satsang; reading the Gita / Quran / Gurbani |
| Social | Social work | Volunteering with a local NGO on weekends |
| Outdoors | Nature | Gardening and looking after indoor plants |
| Tech & learning | Technology | Photography, learning new languages, online courses |
| Games | Games | Chess, cricket with friends, board games with family |

There is no fixed list of "boy hobbies". Write what you do. Some common, natural-sounding entries:

Hobbies & Interests: Playing badminton, cooking on weekends, reading history and business books, travelling to hill stations with family.
Hobbies for Marriage Biodata for Girl
The same rule applies: write your real interests. Some examples:
- Reading novels in English and Marathi
- Classical dance (Bharatanatyam / Kathak) – mention training if any
- Baking and trying new recipes
- Painting, sketching or mehendi design
- Yoga and evening walks
- Singing; learning Hindustani classical music
- Travelling and exploring local food
- Gardening and home décor
Sample (girl):
Hobbies & Interests: Kathak (5 years of training), baking, reading Indian fiction, yoga, and exploring new cafés with friends.
How to Write the Hobbies Line
You have two common styles. Both are fine; choose one and keep it consistent with the rest of your biodata.
1. Comma-separated list (most common):
Reading, cooking, badminton, travel, photography
2. One short sentence (warmer, slightly more personal):
I enjoy cooking for family on weekends, playing badminton, and planning short trips to places with good food.
If your biodata already has an "About Me" paragraph, keep the hobbies field as a short list and mention one hobby in the paragraph instead of repeating everything. Our guide on writing an About Me section shows how the two work together.

Hobbies in Hindi and Other Languages
If your biodata is in Hindi, the field is usually titled शौक और रुचियां (Shauk aur Ruchiyan). Example:
शौक: पुस्तकें पढ़ना, खाना बनाना, योग, संगीत सुनना
In Marathi it is often छंद आणि आवडी (Chhand ani Aavdi): वाचन, स्वयंपाक, ट्रेकिंग, गायन.
In Bengali, শখ ও আগ্রহ (Shokh o Agroho): বই পড়া, গান শোনা, রান্না, ভ্রমণ.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Listing things you don't do. If someone asks about your "chess" and you haven't played in ten years, the conversation becomes awkward.
- Overly long lists. Ten hobbies look padded. Pick the ones that matter most.
- Vague words alone. "Music, movies, internet" says very little. Add one detail to each.
- Hobbies that clash with stated values. If your biodata emphasises a simple, home-centred life, a list of only nightlife and parties sends a mixed message. Be honest, but present the whole picture consistently.
- Too much personal detail. Avoid naming specific clubs, gym timings or social media handles in a document that may be forwarded widely.
Quick Checklist
- 3–6 hobbies or interests, all true
- At least two are specific (an activity plus a detail)
- Consistent format: list or one sentence
- No repetition with the About Me paragraph
- Field heading matches the language of your biodata
